ABOUT THE PROGRAM

DYHA is a hockey association dedicated to having fun and building skills. We are the skill development hockey association where all of the coaches work for all of the kids. At the core of DYHA is the Cross-Ice program. Cross-Ice is a form of play recommended by USA Hockey that allows the players to play small area games which results in more puck touches, quicker reaction times, quicker stops/starts, more puck handling and more shooting. Cross-Ice play is integrated into all of the hockey programs offered by DYHA. It is the best way to develop hockey players and it helps to keep costs down as well.

The association offers the following hockey programs for your child to participate in:

-          Skill Development – this is for new and beginning hockey players. All the necessary skills to play hockey are taught and the players get to scrimmage often and work on their skills in a game environment.

-          Full-Ice House Hockey – this is for hockey players with some hockey experience or players who are ready to play in full-ice games.

-          Travel Hockey – this is for hockey players who have shown they excel in the sport and want to compete at a higher level.

Program Highlights

Skill Development program – This is the USA Hockey Skill Development program. Players skate twice each week.

-                           One practice skate on Saturdays where the players rotate through skill stations focusing on skating, agility, puck handling and scrimmaging.

-                           One scrimmage night on Tuesdays where players play 3v3 cross-ice games. It is just organized pond hockey. Lots of touches and action without focus on “the rules”.

Full-Ice Hockey program – Our full-ice house hockey program focuses on fun and skill development. Players typically skate 3 times per week.

-                           One full-ice practice or game. The ice time is still TBD.

-                           One skill development practice on Saturdays with Anatoliy Buliga and Petr Tichy

-                           One scrimmage night on Tuesdays where players play 3v3 cross-ice games.

As well, all house teams will get professional coaching sessions early in the season. All goalies will have the opportunity to receive dedicated goalie coaching during the season. The mite through peewee age groups get the best of both worlds – cross-ice games and full-ice games. It is a traditional full-ice hockey program with the weekly cross-ice games added on.  This year we will have teams at every age division, from Mite thru Midget, and they are expected to play in the Adray League.

Travel Hockey program – our travel hockey program allows for players who excel in hockey to join a competitive travel team, skate more often and play in the Little Caesar’s travel league. Travel teams are only offered for specific birth years; for the Fall 2009/10 season, there are travel teams for 1997, 1999 and 2000 birth years.

DYHA will provide you with complete season schedules at the beginning of the season. All programs have complete information on the DYHA website throughout the season; each team has its own site on the DYHA website.
